11. a Chinese history book, on the train
She was very shy about being photographed, but she told me it was a book on Chinese history, and although she does read English, she prefers Chinese literature.

The literal translation of the book title is "The Strange People of China". A more interpretive translation might be "The amazing personalities of China"
